A William’s Walk + Maxwell Driver Education Scholarship
At William’s Walk, we believe safer roads begin with better-prepared drivers.
Through our partnership with Maxwell Motorsports & Driving School, Steps to Steering: 901 provides full driver education scholarships to Shelby County high school students who may not otherwise be able to afford professional driver training.
Driver’s education is no longer offered through Memphis-Shelby County Schools, creating a significant financial barrier for many families. This program was created to help remove that barrier by providing access to high-quality driver education that equips students with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to navigate our roads safely.
The scholarship covers the full cost of Maxwell’s Teen Defensive Driving Program, including classroom instruction, simulator training, behind-the-wheel lessons, and the TN road test for eligible students.
This program is about more than earning a driver’s license. It is about creating opportunities, building independence, and helping young people become safe, responsible drivers.
Who Can Apply?
Applicants must:
- Be a Shelby County high school student
- Be at least 15 years old
- Demonstrate financial need
- Commit to completing the Maxwell Driver’s Education Program if selected
How Scholarship Recipients Are Selected
The Steps to Steering: 901 Scholarship is designed to help students who may not otherwise be able to afford driver education.
Applications are reviewed in two stages.
First, William’s Walk reviews each application to determine financial eligibility. Applicants who do not meet the program’s financial need requirements will not be considered for a scholarship.
Among applicants who meet the financial eligibility requirements, scholarships are awarded based on:
- Transportation needs and challenges
- The potential impact driver education may have on the student’s life
- Family responsibilities and commitments
- Commitment to completing the program

All applications are reviewed using the same published criteria to ensure a fair and transparent selection process.
